Miscellaneous Information
Harry was born in Pittsburg, Texas, USA on 2 July 1917. Both parents were born in Pittsburg and were American citizens. His father worked as a brick mason. The schools he attended were a Public School, Waco in Texas 1927-1934, Waco High ,1934-1938, Baylor, as well as Baylor University, Waco between 1937 and 1938. The sports he engaged in were football, tennis, swimming and he enjoyed hunting. He worked at the Community National Gas Co. in San Angelo where he was chief clerk between 1938-1940 when he left to enlist. |
He enlisted on 17 February 1940, whilst the United States was still neutral, and in so doing risked his cirizenship. However, he did not swear an oath the the King on enlistment. After training Harry was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 18 September 1941. Arriving at 3PRC on 28 September 1941 he was then posted to 25 OTU on 8 October 1941 and then 97 Squadron on 7 March 1942. Harry was sadly to lose his life on 9 June 1942. |
